The video (although with each new release they become less like videos and more like ‘mini-movies’) for Lady GaGa’s third single ‘Alejandro’ has been released today.
I’m a little nonplussed if I’m perfectly honest. I love the goggled-headpiece, it’s very ‘REPO! The Genetic Opera’ but the rest just leaves me a little cold, not ‘hot like Mexico’ which it should have done.
Steven Klein is an excellent photographer, he’s got an incredible penchant for shooting images that are raw but stylised which is an incredibly hard thing to do but I feel his work as a Director, particularly when it comes to music videos is a little too ambitious as he tends to fall just short of the mark. I fully appreciate GaGa not wanting to compromise on ‘her vision’ but sometimes in life you have to take one for the team and realise that sometimes, less is more.
Visually, it’s incredible but it has been poorly, poorly executed.

It’s around 3 weeks until the Rogue Traders release their fourth album ‘Night of The Living Drums’, the first album without former lead-singer Natalie Bassingthwaighte and their first album with new front-woman Mindi Jackson.
The group have kindly put a little Megamix of the upcoming record on their MySpace and it certainly sounds like it’ll be receiving regular spins from me. They have captured the balance between Pop and Dance perfectly, some cracking synth action going on and even a little bit of 70’s Disco in there too, really what more can you want?
Things are looking bleak for the group at the moment, singles ‘Love Is A War’ and ‘Would You Raise Your Hands?’ have both failed to enter the Australian charts despite an outrageously good Logies performance and various other T.V. spots showing off just how well the group have managed to do without ‘that one from Neighbours’.
Fingers crossed this album will see the light of day, it’d be criminal for it to be shelved.
Modern Thrills
Time for a criminally under-looked album track from Russian threesome (oo-er!) Tesla Boy now, the trio have just released their debut album ‘Modern Thrills’ throughout Europe and I can officially declare it to be QUITE GOOD. My major problem with the album as a body of work is that it borders on repetitive fairly quickly, it’s almost as if the group sat down, whacked ‘Maniac’ on their stereo and decided that it would be their framework for the album because nearly every song appears to house oddly similar synths and beats in a range of different BPM’s.
Overall though the album is definitely worth a listen if you’re into the whole 80’s, dreamy, soundscape pop that is becoming increasingly popular.
Magnus Carlsson has unveiled what seems to be his 3rd (YES, THIRD!) ‘comeback’ single from his upcoming album ‘Pop Galaxy’. ‘This Is Disco’, terrible lyrics aside was quite catchy and the least said about his cover of ‘A Little Respect’ the better as far as I’m concerned but ‘Feel You’ the new single sees a return to form for Mr. Carlsson as he goes back to his routes with a Pitchline produced stormer. It’s very Jenny ‘Velvet’ Pettersson in terms of sound but as you should know by now viewers, THIS IS NO BAD THING.
The b-side ‘Take Me To Your Heart’ is also quite nice and is well worth a listen.
DO NOT, I REPEAT DO NOT download the ‘Extended Mix’ under any circumstances as it features a rather terrible GUITAR SOLO which is practically a cardinal sin.
And in what seems to be a rare moment of brilliance, a Swedish record company has finally seen the light and decided that there may well be other countries around Europe that wouldn’t mind forking out their hard-earned money to download their singles and have made this available on most iTunes Stores across Europe.
So, what are you waiting for?

On a more ‘upbeat’ note, Swedish quintet Le Kid released their debut single ‘Mercy Mercy’ in Sweden this past week, the song has been floating around for a fair few months now with a rather splendid accompanying video featuring parasols and synchronised leg movements and it actually seems to be doing rather well.
The group whose debut album will be released in the Autumn of this year have got some seriously strong songs under their belts, ‘America’, ‘Escape’, ‘Telephone’ and ‘We Should Go Home Together’ are all single-worthy and will eventually make up a joyous and quite frankly outrageously good album one day.
I did hear through the grapevine however, that ‘America’ won’t actually have a place on the album which is nothing short of LUDICROUS.
SORT IT OUT, LE KID.
The 5th single from iamamiwhoami has been released this week, seemingly not to us poor folk in the UK however, we seem to have been unfairly neglected.
Jonna Lee is back with what seems to be the calm before the storm in terms of plot development, she’s asking us as the viewer to ‘tell her how the story ends’ which is incredibly ironic considering she must have been off her tits when she knocked up the storyboard for this little ditty. We have semen-filled cups, breast pumps, lots of pretty scenery and some tomatoes. Realistically all of the above should be included in every pop video but that is simply a pipe dream.
I hope when this ends a few crazed fans decide to create a slickly-choreographed FlashMob based on these videos, normally I would not approve of such disgusting activity but when it involves being slathered in mud, licking trees and doing jazz hands in a forest, frankly I’M ALL FOR IT.
